The A700 was one of Sony's early dSLR releases. This is the only people were waiting for. The replacement for the Konica-Minolta 7D (and its predecessor, the film 7). The 7D enjoyed a very loyal following for its outstanding ergonomics and continuation of the Minolta legacy. So when the A700 was finally released, there were a great deal of mixed feelings. While the A700 was unquestionably a great camera there was a feeling of a break in the legacy. Sony introduced a new control set replacing the knobs and dials of beloved on the 7D (some started to call the old 7D, "knobby").

In any case, the A700 has good low light performance, fast shooting, excellent ergonomics and a good auto focus system. Many still seek out this discontinues camera for its fine qualities.
