The A100 was Sony's first dSLR. It was clearly the product of Konica-Minolta's engineering with final touches put on by Sony. Remember this was when Sony purchased the Konica-Minolta camera business. The A100 was criticized when released as nothing special, but over time its true qualities have been revealed.
At the time people were interested in faster AF, good high ISO performance and a few were looking for traditional Minolta colors. Instead of any of these the A100 was an inexpensive 10MP capable of producing exceptionally detailed images in good light. If you don't need the most sophisticated focusing system in the world, the Sony A100 is still an excellent little dSLR. Even the kit lens that came with it was quite decent. Add one of the classic Minolta lenses on it and you have a great combination.
